Reading for Dogs

I am for doing things my own way and will be raising funds for one of my favourite charities, RSPCA QLD.

RSPCA QLD rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes animals across the state, caring for over 52,000 animals every year. It is the only charitable body responsible for investigating and prosecuting cruelty cases within Queensland, with the Inspectorate receiving over 17,800 reports of cruelty last year. RSPCA QLD care for wildlife, domestic and farm animals, providing a safe space for animals with less than 3% government funding annually.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of the animals of Queensland. Thank you!

Elise's School Holiday Read-A-Thon

Sunday 27th Apr

My 7- year- old daughter, Elise, said that she would like to do something to raise money for ‘doggies with no homes’. Elise loves all animals but has a very special love for dogs.

We suggested a Read- A-Thon for the duration of her Easter School holidays. We chose reading as a task as it is challenging for her and it needed to be something challenging if people were going to sponsor her to do it. Elise agreed that it was something she could do!

We estimated that she would probably read 20-25 books (with effort) during the holidays. Her grandmother offered her an incentive of a larger donation if she could read 35 books! The goal was set!

Elise (with some help) selected a variety of books at her reading level (and it bit above) to help her get started. We established the rules that each book was read to another person and that for this challenge she could only read the same book once. Elise worked so hard and tracked her books and reading date in her notebook. She finished her 35th book for this challenge, just before dinner on Easter Monday (the last day of the school holidays). Her family are all SO proud of her dedication and hard work towards achieving her goal (and her reading has improved too!).

Elise said of the challenge, “It was hard. I read a lot in my school holidays for the doggies with no homes and I hope they have homes soon”.
